Concrete Repair or Concrete Replacement - What should you do?

commercial concrete driveway replacement
After providing many installations and repairs throughout the years as a concrete contractor in Ocala Florida, this is a question that comes up often, "Should I get my concrete repaired, or should I just have a full concrete replacement?" Well, the answer is it all depends on how much of the concrete is damaged, how old or new the concrete is, if there are excess stains across other areas of the concrete, if there are other areas that look like it's beginning to crack, and ultimately the big one:  are there deep cracks already present?

If you have a concrete that's somewhat new, and there is an small area that is cracking and you'd like to repair it because you don't see the need of replacing the whole area (concrete driveway, patio, slab) etc, you have to keep in mind that the new area is going to have a shade of different color.  If that is no big deal to you, then just a repair on the area would work just fine. However, if that new different colored area will bug you, then having a replacement might be the way to go.

Often times people get a concrete replacement because their current concrete has one or up to all of the following issues right now:
  • Cracks - Cracks, if deep enough, can cause a foundational issue which would automatically need a replacement.
  • Holes
  • Stains - Oil stains, etc.
Concrete repair issues are addressed in varying degrees. Minor cracks and patches can be smoothed out with a trowel. Concrete that has major cracks or structural problems may require more extensive repairs or replacement. If the concrete has to be removed and replaced, a backhoe may do the job.

The same thing goes for if you're looking to extend your driveway. You have to keep in mind that when you place an extension to your driveway, the coloring of the concrete that is placed should be blended well with the existing driveway as best as possible if you're not wanting to replace the whole driveway. The same thing goes for an extended patio too.

The concrete color should not fade over time. This is to avoid a noticeable contrast between the two colors. However, there is only so much a blending can do, and ultimately there is going to be a noticeable difference. The driveway's surface should match the rest of the home's exterior if you're really looking to cater the whole property to be matching in color.

If you're not sure what you want to do, give us a call and we will stop by to take a look at the concrete and look at its structure, search for cracks or damage to the foundation. We can have a chat about what the cost differences will be between the two options and let you know what we will be able to do for you in both scenarios.  We look forward to hearing from you!
